FCSI EF UPDATE

One step closer to a certificate program

New plans for a formal certificate program for consultants are taking shape, as Jay Bravinder, president of FCSI Educational Foundation, outlines here

I

n the last few issues of Foodservice Consultant, we have outlined the Educational Foundation’s plans to develop and launch a certificate program for foodservice consultants. As you would expect, this is a slow process, but I am happy to say that we are making good progress. We have created a task force that will review the proposals that have been submitted so far as well as advise on next steps.

The members of the task force are: Garrett Lennon FCSI, JLR Design Group (chair) Richard Dieli FCSI, Dieli Murawka

Howe Kathleen Held, Cini-Little International, Inc. Katharine Mizla CSI, CTD

Working with our education consultant, the task force has conducted three Zoom interviews with the three prospective college/universities. These include Florida International University, Johnson & Wales University and Western Kentucky University. Each of

14

the institutions submitted a detailed proposal of the type of program they would recommend – either in-person learning, a hybrid approach featuring both in-person and online learning, or a 100% online program.

The initial interviews have been

completed and all the institutions bring unique qualities to the table. Next step is for the task force to meet to further discuss these proposals and interview results to better determine the way forward in the process. There are a number of options in play: The task force could select one

institution and move forward with the development of a certificate program. The task force could find two

institutions that are willing to collaborate on a certificate program that both would offer as part of their respective curriculum.

The task force could move forward with all three institutions, creating three programs at three institutions. As mentioned earlier, this is not a fast process. The hope is to make a decision by the end of 2022 so that the creation of the program could begin in 2023.
