Donald is a pharmacist who has given a significant amount of his time and energy to helping others
several positions in Belfast before being presented with the opportunity to purchase his first pharmacy.
Ever the entrepreneur, he worked hard and developed the pharmacy into a thriving business, adding skincare, perfumery and even a photography machine – all of which was ground- breaking at the time.
With two new contracts, and two acquisitions, he had a group of 5 pharmacies. All this, while also raising a growing family of three sons, kept him very busy.
Donald joined the Ulster Chemists’ Association (UCA) and the Pharmaceutical Contractors’ Committee, now Community Pharmacy NI (CPNI) in 1992 and was elected President of UCA in 1998.
In 2009, Donald downsized his pharmacy business to one pharmacy enabling him to focus on developing a successful wholesaling business, alongside all his other activities.
As a leading and well-respected member of both UCA and CPNI, Donald has worked diligently on both committees for many years,

only retiring from CPNI in 2022, following 19 years of acting in the role of Treasurer.
He has also contributed to various sub-groups within both the UCA and CPNI, finding like-minded people in these two organisations who were all striving to drive community pharmacy forward and, most importantly, support fellow contractors and pharmacists.
Donald is highly respected and admired by those who have worked with him or know him personally. He is energetic, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, diligent, generous and supportive – qualities that are rare to find in a single individual.
Having been a pharmacist for almost 40 years and giving generously of his time and effort, to represent and
support fellow Pharmacists and Contractors for 30 of those 40 years. Donald is an individual that has gone above and beyond in his dedication and contribution to the field of Pharmacy and to the community.
His wife and business partner, who has been at his side since their time at Queens University, is also a crucial part of his success story. With her unwavering support, they demonstrate a truly great partnership in every sense of the word.
Donald is a worthy recipient of the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Community Pharmacy. His passion for the profession and commitment to patient care serves as an inspiration to his colleagues and the pharmacy community.
