Brendan Payne, owner of the taxi business, said he was proud of the drivers’ success at the end of their ten weeks of studies. He told the Littlehamp- ton Gazette: “At first they were not sure about it, and were say-

awarded successf ul learners with certifi- cates at a presentation ceremony held at Har- rogate College on March 30. According to the Harro- gate Advertiser, more than 30 Harrogate taxi and private hire drivers have completed both a BTEC and an NVQ Level 2 course in Road Passenger Vehicle Driv- ing developed by Go Skills, the Sector Skills Council for Passenger Transport. The course was funded by the Learning and Skills Council’s Train to Gain service. The combined BTEC and NVQ Level 2 course in Road Passen- ger Vehicle Driving have been introduced to improve the image of the industry, raise pro-

assessment to drivers to help them to gain skills to provide the best standard of serv- ice. Mr Bentley told the assembled drivers how impressed he was that so many members of Blueline had voluntarily undertaken the train- ing, and he was greatly encouraged to learn that the remaining members were either in the process of taking the course or were waiting to start. He said this commit- ment

to raising

professional standards would not only benefit the drivers concerned but would undoubtedly assist in presenting a good image to all visi- tors to our town. At this time, with many towns competing for the conference and exhibition business,

added professionalism in the public transport sector in Harrogate had to be a plus, he added. Before the presenta- tions,
