point of sale ..... point of sale ..... FORD TRANSIT TOURNEO
NOTHING SHORT OF EXCELLENT
It’s testament to the quality of the new Ford Transit that you’re read- ing this road test of the Ford Tourneo at all. After all, the Transit is better known for its load-lugging abilities than passenger car comfort. But the new Transit is nothing short of excel- lent, and when it’s combined with a bun- dle of fancy bits, you get something that can worrymore convention- al MPVs. While most private buyers would choose a Galaxy
over the
Tourneo, the Tranny-in- a-sharp-suit
finds
favour with businesses looking to ferry cus- tomers from hotel to airport, or office to function suite. Our 8-seater test van came with comfortable leather seats, and rear

access was excellent thanks to two huge slid- ing doors. Drivers can sling plenty of gear in the boot, and the

upwards rather than the conventional twin slide- hinged door format. From the driver’s seat things were remarkably car-like, with a steering
PEUGEOT E7 FROM
CAB DIRECT A BIG HIT IN BASILDON
Ian Morrow from Basil- don in Essex has recently made the move to hackney after 20 years working as a private hire driver. He explains his decision to change: “The council here are crying out for wheelchair accessible cabs. I was looking for more freedom and rel- ished the opportunity of becoming an owner driver after 20 years of paying circuits.” Having taken the deci- sion to change, there was only one cab Ian was interested in – the Peugeot E7 from Cab Direct. He comments: “You only have to look around the rank here to see who the supplier of choice is. Ninety per cent of vehicles in the area are from Cab Direct and the drivers are only too happy to recommend the E7.”
Bags of Space One of the main plus points for Ian is the amount of space in the E7. Today’s passen-
gers often come with plenty of luggage and being able to accom- modate this is crucial for the modern day driver. Ian comments: “The space in the E7 is phenomenal. There’s huge loading capacity. Whether it’s suitcases or prams, there’s never a problem with the E7.” Plus, with E7’s cele- brated
the E7’s under-floor pull out ramp. Ian says: “I do a lot of wheelchair work and it’s a breeze. The ramp is convenient and quick and easy to use – customers love not having to wait.”

seat, you have the ver- satility to adapt your cab to suit every fare, either affording your passengers loads of room in the rear cabin or making way for masses of And if
luggage. that’s not
enough, E7 plus, the long wheelbase model, offers even greater room, whatever the job, ensuring that space will never be an issue.
Access for All Even lighter, even quicker and even easi- er to use, both drivers and wheelchair pas- sengers alike are enjoying the benefits of
Nothing but Positives Ian continues in his praise: “I can’t fault the E7. It’s an excellent drive and it looks the part too. I opted for the top spec model and the extras are great. Plus, it’s good on fuel too.” With three fantastic models to choose from, each built with the pro- fessional driver
in
mind, E7 promises you the ultimate in modern day cabs. For more informa- tion on the Peugeot E7 call Cab Direct on 0800 916 3058, visit

wheel and gear knob you’d expect to find in a Mondeo. The dash is clearly laid out and the controls were well marked.
There are loads of stor- age spaces too, but this is where the Tour- neo reveals its more humble underpinnings - there’s space for clip- boards and other paraphernalia of the delivery driver or tradesman. Outside the Tourneo is certainly striking - from the front, at least. Huge headlights flank an even bigger grille, but it all goes a bit flat around the sides and rear; they are about the same as the outgoing model. But the Tourneo ismore about
function than
form. A gutsy 130 bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine provides a huge wedge of pulling power - 228 lb/ft worth at an exceptionally low 1750 rpm. That means the bulk of the engine’s grunt is available in the low rev range.
This power is fed
through a five speed gearbox to the front wheels - something that saves space as the dri- vetrain doesn’t have to run through the vehicle. It wasn’t short on kit either. ABS, electronic stability programme, and traction control all came as standard, while remote central locking and power steering helped to make driving easy. If you’re looking for a people mover with more than your usual seven seats, the Tour- neo is one of the few practical choices.
