HAPPY ANNIVERSARY WELCOME TO OUR 200th ISSUE!!
In September 1992 a new monthly national trade publication was born. Called Private Hire Monthly in those days, the first edition com- prised 26 pages, some 20 adverts, and a large number of the same fea- tures readers see today. Well, here we are, 17 years and 200 editions later, celebrating a lot of hard work, some good laughs, some occasion- ally harrowing press deadlines (!) and a few well chosen words (so we’re told)... hosting our 29th Taxi and Private Hire Exhibition (see you at the Ricoh in Coventry, 27 and 28 May)... and still pretty much the same crowd as those who produced Issue One. So there you are. The first thing we want to do is to shout a tremendously loud “Thank You” to everyone: our loyal read- ers, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning and never miss an issue. And to our equally loyal advertisers,
without whose unstinting support we’d have to fold our tent and go home. Also to the increasing numbers of taxi licensing departments in local authorities around the country who now sub- scribe to PHTM for their departments, and for dis- tribution to licence holders. The same goes for the ever-increasing number of local hackney and pri- vate hire associations throughout the UK who distribute
PHTM
amongst their members. Of course over the years we have found that huge numbers of hackney carriage licence holders have taken to reading our humble tome... and indeed,
joining the
National Association. Thus the change of our publication’s name to Private Hire & Taxi Monthly a few years back. Whichever licence one holds,
It’s all about
spreading the word. That was our objective right from the very first
edition: to spread the word,
industry of the latest trade
to inform the developments
both locally and nation- ally - which is why we have always repro- duced verbatim virtually every consultation doc- ument that has been produced. Generally by this word-spreading process, the object is to raise standards in the trade, both actual and as perceived by the public. To celebrate our 200th anniversary issue, and as a further gesture of thanks to everyone, PHTM is giving away in a free prize draw at this year’s Exhibition a brand new Mercedes C200 cdi saloon. All vis- itors to the show will be automatically entered into the draw and the car will be given away on the second day. Now that’s one impres- sive £25,000 thank-you gift!Good luck to all. See our show pages 20-25. So here’s to the next 200 issues!
