WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GO TO GET ALL THESE

BENEFITS?

So there you have it: that’s what your National Associ- ation does for your trade. We’ve had a bit of practice at it . . . about fourteen years, to be exact. When we set up this Association, itwas decreed that the one and only requirement for membership was that the applicant has to hold a licence; this still holds true today. For the longest time we have been attracting membership from not only private hire, executive and chauffeur companies, but in-creased numbers of hackney carriage propri- etors and local hackney associations. The point is, we’re out there batting for everyone. No doubt you’ve read about someofour activities in our national newspaper, Private Hire & TaxiMonthly. Well, just because you receive the paper on a reg- ular basis, this does not make you amember of the National Association! We supply the editorial for the paper, and the paper is our

sounding board to spread thewordabout tradedevel- opments.

But

association is a separate organisation altogether, which exists solely through memberships

renewals. Your support

our and is what

makes it possible for us to continue in our endeav- ours: more financial security for our trade, more legal education, more impact on Government at nationalandlocal level. Our motto – to raise standards in the trade, both actual and as perceived by the public – says it all. People tell us it’s working . . . but don’t take our word for it – listen to ourmembers!

ChrisWickham, CJW Taxis,Glastonbury: “I have been working with theNational Association for some years now, mainly as their ‘thorn in the side’ weapon in carrying out in- depth

and we’ve held many a conference call with him, often at very unsociable hours! Believe me, you cannot find a more knowl- edgeable source of industry info than the National Association.”

What’s in it for me? NATIONAL ASSOCIATION

Adrian Fets, Durham Independent Taxi Association: “I would tell anybody who asks, that the National Association’s support has been invaluable in this area. Without their general assistance and legal repre- sentation, our trade would have continued to be intim- idated, and our individual businesses decimated, by the actions of our council. The NPHA has proved that, in order to enforce the leg- islation that governs our trade,

must stick to the rules as well.”

investigations

concerning some of the trade’s more controversial subjects, such as unli- censed community cars, insurance issues, unrea- sonable vehicle licence conditions. All I do when I need legal backup on a point is to pick up the phone to Bryan or Donna, and the information is immediately to hand. It is said that ‘knowledge is strength’ – I’ll go alongwith that!”

Scott Pielsticker, CEO, Blueback Ltd., London: “We have worked closely with theNPHAduringevery phase of the research, planning,openingandcon- tinuing

growth and

improvement of our com- pany. Bryan’s input has always been a crucial ele- ment in our negotiations,

GeorgeWalker, CSSLtd, London SW16: “I’ve been amember of the National Association since it started, and as a London Board member of the NPHA I have worked very closely with Bryan over the years to lobby for a legiti- mate private hire trade in the London area. The licensing process is now underway, and theNational Association’s participation in the consultations has been crucial to get the bal- ance right.”

John Preece,Managing Director, Taxifast of Ply- mouth: “I have found that being in the taxi industry I need cer- tain safeguards: good insurance,

council. The quality of the help I have received from Bryan has been 24-carat. His knowledge of our industry and the laws that govern us is unsurpassed. He is available 24/7 and nothingis toomuch trouble for him. Few people deservemore praise in this industry thanBryanandthe Association. The NPHA is a pillar within my business that I use frequently; I would not wish to exist without it.”

Chris Frayne, RCA Taxis Ltd, Sheffield: “The effort the National Association has put in over the years is really paying off . . . but there’s still somuch to accomplish. Who better to carry on these momen- tous endeavours on behalf ofour trade?Andofcourse, there’s strength in num- bers: the more members, the more impact we can make around the country.”

Thank you once again for all your assis- tance. As you know from having come down and attended our association meetings, we have had a lot of issues to take upwith our council, and at leastwe feel we've got some sup- port and direction in the background. Cheers!”
