...TIMES WATFORD CABBIE STRANGLED FROM BEHIND

A Watford taxi driver has described the ter- rifying moment he was attacked by two pas- sengers in the early hours of the morning. Mr Khan, 39, was strangled from behind while another man grabbed the steering wheel, forcing the car to the side of the road. The cabbie had earlier picked the men up from a taxi rank oppo- site the Watford Colosseum. The as- sault occurred in St Albans Road, outside the McDonald’s restau- rant, on Friday, January

14, at about 3.30am. The two men, described as being in their late 40s, asked to be dropped off in Horseshoe Lane, Garston, but became abusive and told Mr Khan they would not be paying for the cab. He told the Watford Observer: “I turned around but the guy in the back swore at me and punched me in the side of the neck.” The passenger in the front seat then forced the car to the side of the road, while Mr Khan was held against

the head rest by the rear passenger, who grabbed him by the throat.

As the front seat pas- senger fled, the rear passenger threatened Mr Khan, telling him he knew where he lived and worked. “I was very shaken up,” he said.

“Even now when I pick people up I am still paranoid - I felt intimi- dated and I still do.” Police are investigat- ing the incident, which is the latest in a spate of attacks on Watford taxi drivers.
