2025 AGM and awards report The IIMS Annual General Meeting 2025 took place online on

3 June, broadcast live from the Institute's headquarters at Murrills House, Portchester UK. The event was attended by a sizeable number of members from around the world.

CEO, Mike Schwarz, gave a comprehensive overview of the work and activities that had taken place over the past 12 months. Furthermore, he informed members that IIMS is in a strong financial position having had a successful trading year as the business continued to grow. He reported that the outstanding mortgage on the head office real estate had been reduced significantly, and it is anticipated this will be paid off entirely soon.

Key IIMS Directors and Committee Chairs gave their individual reports on the various committee work being undertaken.

A number of honours were announced at this year’s AGM and they are as follows:

Palma, Mallorca based Tim Rowe has been awarded a Fellowship in recognition of his work in the marine industry over many years.

Honorary Fellowship has been awarded to Capt Zillur Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Regional Director, as he is set to retire from the surveying profession. This award also recognises his achievement in getting the IIMS Professional Qualification accepted and delivered in Bangladesh. Another retiree, Emeraku Ijioma from Nigeria, who was instrumental in helping to establish the IIMS Nigerian branch, was awarded an Honorary Membership.

It is rare for IIMS to recognise the contributions of non- Institute members, but the management board has decided to honour Stuart Edmonston, UK P&I Club's Safety & Risk Management Director, with an Honorary Fellowship.

And last, but by no means least, IIMS was delighted to announce that Chairman of Standards, Paul Homer, an IIMS Executive Director, was to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Paul’s experience spans more than four decades as a marine surveyor and this recognition reflects his personal dedication, commitment and contribution to IIMS over many years.
