Challenge yourself through a Sailors’ Society fundraiser

‘Maritime events, for maritime people, for a maritime charity’

The Sailors’ Society – IIMS President Captain Ruchin Dayal’s chosen charity – has a range of exciting fundraising challenges to take part in 2026. Created for maritime professionals, these events offer unique opportunities to make new connections and build on existing ones. Which one will you take on?

TCS London Marathon MyWay 2026

26/04/2026 | Anywhere in the world £250 fundraising target + £50 registration fee TCS London Marathon MyWay 2026 - Sailors' Society

This is the only one of the three events that is not our own bespoke event. What it offers is the chance to run the iconic London Marathon – the world’s largest one-day fundraising event – anywhere in the world. Which we think is particularly relevant for a global industry like maritime.

Entrants have to run or walk the full 26.2 mile (42.1 km) distance on the day of the London Marathon- but they have a full 24 hours to do it. They can do it anywhere in the world, on land or at sea, with the only limitations being they have to do it outside and record their run/walk (e.g. on a Garmin or other device). They get the official finishers medal and t-shirt as well as a certificate from Sailors’ Society. We also put finishers in our shortlist for the 2027 London Marathon- which is a hugely oversubscribed event. Last year, participants undertook the distance in locations as wide ranging as Panama, Devon and Singapore. It’s an individual event but inherently flexible and inclusive- a lower fundraising target, no need for expensive

flights or accommodation in London, and can be undertaken alongside colleagues, family or friends.

Miles for Mariners 13/06/2026 | Isle of Wight, UK

£1,200 fundraising target (cyclist)/£250 (hiker) Miles for Mariners 2026 - Sailors' Society

This is a brand new one-day event, taking place on the Isle of Wight on a (hopefully) sunny Saturday and organised in partnership with OCIMF and a professional cycling events company. Participants will have the option of 100km and 75km routes on the Isle of Wight, either self-navigated or with a cycle guide. All cyclists will be grouped – both for safety but also to encourage networking and making new industry connections. This will be a worthwhile physical challenge, but also involving fun and friendship- with a pitstop lunch and informal buffet-style evening refuelling. There is also the option of a circa half marathon distance scenic hike, with a local hiking guide. The routes have all been chosen for their low traffic and scenic beauty, showing off the best of the island and- of course- with plenty of sea views. This is a ride, not a race- the focus is on participation, connection and challenge – as with all our events we will spotlight and celebrate companies who enter a number of colleagues into the event- we will give all due credit. As a one-day Saturday event, no time off work required and

it is commutable from London- however if participants want to make a weekend of it, the island has lots to discover.

Summit for Seafarers 27-30/11/2026 | Vietnam

£1,700 fundraising target + £299 registration fee Summit for Seafarers 2026 – Fansipan Challenge - Sailors' Society

Another new, bespoke event. The aim is the summit of Fansipan- at 3,147m, the highest mountain in Vietnam, and the famed ‘Roof of Indochina’. This is a challenging trek, accompanied by a qualified trek leader, and open to maritime professionals to encourage the fostering of new industry friendships on the mountain. Stunning scenery and real physical challenge, this event is designed to inspire participants to reach new heights and make memories to last a lifetime. Taking place over a weekend, only two days out of office are required, and the starting point of Hanoi has been chosen due to its easy connections with regional maritime hubs like Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila. Accommodation and meals on the trek are included, with a celebratory dinner at the end of the adventure. Again, companies who get behind the event will be duly recognised – we think this is a great way to combine both teambuilding and making new industry connections while raising funds for a maritime cause.
