Molabo X Fischer Panda serial hybrid system
German electric motor manufacturer Molabo came together at Metstrade with market-leading genset maker Fischer Panda to unveil a new serial hybrid system that combines Molabo’s safe, high-performance 48-volt ARIES drive with Fischer Panda’s lightweight and compact AGT-series generators.
The system, which was developed for the IMOCA racing yacht of Boris Herrmann’s Team Malizia, allows boatbuilders to combine pure-electric operation with generator-assisted cruising, offering flexible and ultra- efficient energy management for long- range or high-demand applications. All components operate at 48 V DC, ensuring safety and ease of installation; no specialized high-voltage certification or equipment required.
Because the entire system remains low voltage, it can be installed by existing trained shipyard staff without slowing production lines. Routine service is equally straightforward: owners retain access to Fischer Panda’s worldwide service network for the gensets, while most marine electricians can safely maintain Molabo’s 48 V ARIES drive. In addition, the diesel-fuelled 6 to 22 kW integrated DC generators can be run on HVO – hydrotreated vegetable oil biofuel.
VETUS: 22 kW E-Line inboard motor
VETUS has been selling boat motors and accessories since 1964 and developed the world’s first electric bow thruster for pleasure craft in 1982 and their own electric inboards in 2000. At Metstrade they launched the latest model, the E-LINE 22kW Inboard Electric Propulsion Motor.
A liquid-cooled, low-maintenance option for those looking to electrify, it delivers the highest output within the VETUS electric range and is suitable for every vessel with a shaft drive, whether newly built or undergoing a refit. It can also be cooled with fresh surface water or through keel cooler for boats in salty or contaminated water. All of this makes it an excellent choice for boaters who value strong performance, high efficiency and complete freedom on the water.
Mitek: The RD Rotating Saildrive line
Last year at METS the Italian manufacturer Mitek introduced their ‘REVOLVE’, a clever outboard where the entire unit revolves parallel to the transom to tuck away close to the boat when not in use. This year they are showing their rotating saildrive that can be freely oriented to function both as a propulsion system and stern thruster, allowing you to direct the thrust where needed. This makes manoeuvring in port much easier and more precise because you can move the boat or turn it on the spot regardless of weather conditions.
