In his generous donation of his beautifully rendered half-hull model of Stag Hound by McKay’s son Cornelius, he admits that in addition to his work, planking and ship’s keel must be included to realize the vessel’s true dimensions. Meanwhile, all cutwater and naval hood details have been lost to history. (Figure 28)


Inspired by our evaluation of the hull form of Glory of the Seas, I sketched what I consider more accurate reconstructions of his most famous extreme clipper Flying Cloud and then his premier extreme clipper Stag Hound. Similar to Björn Landstrøm’s approach, I precisely traced published lines of Flying Cloud then overlaid missing details to recreate a more historically accurate profi le.
