141. T is is the fi nished H.L. Hunley in 1:24 scale on its display quay ready for its fi nal voyage. Mounting and arming equipment yet to be removed, heavy liſt ing hawsers in place for the derrick that will put it in the water. T e sturdy dock hand (for scale) is aſt er his wind-blown hat while the Home Guard supervisor (who just happens to look like my brother) makes a fi nal inspection. T e custom acrylic case fi ts into a slot base that I made with walnut blocks on the sides to receive brass screws that lock it in place against dust and little fi ngers. Dedication and information strips on front margin have yet to be permanently attached. To give a more controlled view, a sky blue poster stock with clouds was cut and taped inside to the back. It not only blocks background distractions but also allows the dark detail to pop. Finishing off my presentation package is a LED light bar designed for aquarium use that works perfectly to give the exact amount of light for display. It may be controlled by an internal timer and goes from bright noon day sun to moon glow.
T is was a wonderful build and learning experience. I never knew how easy it would be to sculpt scale fi gures. I doubt that I will do fi ve identical,
fully
scratch-built models in the future as I have here but the words of appreciation from family members have made this a very rewarding endeavor.
