100. I worked from the center to the ends, touching the peeled foil center mark perpendicular to a reference center line drawn from bow to stern. As I carefully worked it down to the lateral line I punched an awl through any reference holes, port light hole, or drilled hole for features mounting. I found this much easier than looking for a light refraction aſt er multiple sheets were in place. Most of the bottom sheets were run from the lateral line down with another seam under the weights. T e lower full sheets outside the weights were put on in the same way as the upper sheets with some trimming on the non-riveted side.
102. T e several ports for fi lling and draining the water ballast tanks were made with tiny rivets that I collected forty years ago. T ey were of the right size. T e penny is for scale. Note the horizontal strip of iron that covers the seam as per the plans. Also note the extra riveted plate behind the front tower that will show a close set of rivets around the edge of the snorkel box and the diff erent sized portholes in the tower versus the lights in the hull.
101. Before I put foil down I found that by drawing a large “V” out from the hole I was to cover, with the point of the “V” in the hole and the tails running an inch into the next strip location, I could align a plastic straight edge on those tails across the now attached foil to a point at the hole under the foil. Worked great!
103. T e brass assemblies were set in place with epoxy and fi lled before foiling.
