The DFM API is a big part of our strategy
"We fond that digta feigt matcing alowed us t handl moe feigt wihot hiring moe popl.”
— Dylan Sluder, IT Director of IT for UCW Logistics
“We connect with outside vendors through the DFM API. With one tool we focus on carriers that we’re already using and send the book-it-now loads to them. We use another tool to find those carriers we haven’t used and to build new relationships. We do it as a three-tier approach. Hit it with the Waterfall Tendering out of McLeod, then go outside to one tool for existing carriers and another tool for new carriers.”
PNN and Waterfall Tendering
“McLeod’s Private Notification Network and Waterfall Tendering provide us with valuable options after most of our book-it-now loads are covered. These tools help us identify the carriers who want certain lanes.”
We encourage carriers to engage
“One of our goals has been to get more carriers to engage with digital freight matching. Sometimes they find the load through a digital freight matching tool, but then call us to book it instead of responding electronically to the email offer. We’re trying to get them to do it through the application where they found the load. It’s not easy to get the carriers to do this, but some of our brokers have had their best months recently because they’ve been able to get carriers to engage more electronically.”
Our top pod has booked half of their loads through digital freight matching
“We operate in teams or “pods” and our top pod has reached 50% digital freight matching loads, so they’re asking for more customers because they’re ready to book more loads. They’re able to cover more in less time.”
We recommend choosing a champion
“To get digital freight matching to work at your company, make someone the champion. If you just set it up and say, ‘Here’s this tool,’ everyone will keep doing what they’re already doing. We’re creatures of habit. We picked the pod that had the most experience, and we said, ‘We need you to buy in on this. Show your numbers to the rest of the teams. Let them see how easy it is to set up these rules.’ Once we really honed in and started setting this pod up, we gave them two weeks and they had all their book-it-now loads ready to go, all of their rules ready. The other pods saw that all you have to do is set up these rules and you’re covering 15 loads a day, so they’re now on board.”
