Learn to Make Your Own Predictions
It’s tempting to rely on news headlines as your main source of information for indicators of what lies ahead for the U.S. economy, but this approach is not always a safe bet. If you focus mainly on headlines, you’re making decisions based on incomplete sets of data. Some sectors of the economy may struggle while others flourish. You want to understand the supply and demand of the economic sectors that are relevant to the freight that your company hauls. There are data sources available to you that will help you gauge specific economic activity. You’ll find that you don’t have to be an expert to make sense of the data and put it to productive use. In addition to your own efforts, we invite you to stay tuned to our podcast. We’ll continue to share our perspective on upcoming trends in trucking.

Positive Trends in Construction
Home construction is hurting due to higher interest rates, but there are other segments of the construction industry that are expanding.
People are moving to rural areas and this brings construction - Recent analysis shows that almost half of the houses sold now are in rural areas. One component of this may be the increase in remote working, which allows people to live apart from their company’s offices. This move to the country has implications beyond home construction. The infrastructure in small towns has to evolve to serve the influx of new residents. Road and utility construction will increase, for example. Plus, as these new homes are built, trucks will be needed to haul all kinds of materials, such as carpet, appliances, and paint.
Amusement and recreation - New water parks, outdoor adventure parks, and more are being built. This often requires additional infrastructure, which adds more to the list of materials that are needed, and it all has to come by truck.
