A turning point was when “Mr. R” met the person he thought was the “King of  for “the kid” who added some 200 pieces to his collection. The insulator bug had bitten him and there was no turning back.

During his high school years around 1977, he tended a 4 acre garden. This produce would also be used to trade for insulators.

Rebuilding Aztec NM substation conversion from 2400 to 7200 volts

During and after my college years in the ‘70s graduating with an engineering degree, I upgraded and placed the ranch electrical lines underground on the entire north side. Upon building a 600 acre irrigation system on the south side of the ranch, I designed and built a 4160 volt distribution system to power electric pumps  insulators were used including a 2-mile 3 phase power line using CD-257 mouse’s.

In 1988, I was asked to evaluate the City of Aztec’s aging electric utility system and was soon made its Electric Utility Director. I designed and implemented a conversion of that system from 2400 volts to 7200 volts and of course all the discarded insulators were saved to place in the future electrical museum.
