Downwind Sailing JIBING


Step 1: Preparation Skipper • Look around to check for traffic or obstacles. • Check the wind direction. • Choose a direction to steer after the jibe. • Ask your crew “Ready to jibe?”


Crew • Hold both jibsheets. • Crew responds with “Ready” when prepared.


Step 2: Turn the Boat Skipper


• Say “Jibing” while turning slowly downwind. Step 1: Preparation


• Trim in the mainsail partway so the boom is over the cockpit.


Crew


• Stay low for better balance and to avoid the boom.


• Trim the jib by using the “new” sheet.
