Foreword by Gary Jobson
As I come up on deck for the first day of a week long cruise, I’m greeted by the best question that can be asked in sailing, “would you like to take the helm?” “I’m ready”, was my quick reply.
With my hands on the wheel, my feet planted on the deck, and with anticipation running high, I steered the boat away from the wind. As the sails filled, the boat heeled and we were underway. This is a magic moment that always makes me feel good. The sky, clouds, sails, boat, water, wind and my body all seemed to exist as one. And best of all, this feeling happens on every boat of any size.
Freedom, the connection with the sea, the passion for enjoying life, your mates are just a few of the reasons to spend time on the water. Boats come alive under sail and invigorate crews.
For the first time aspirant sailing might seem intimidating, but thanks to Learn Sailing Right!, one can quickly understand the concepts thanks to simple diagrams and clear descriptions. This book gets right to the basics and serves as a practical guide and handy reference for the entire crew.
Time on the water is precious. For many, sailing is the icing on the cake of life. Take some time to study this concise book on sailing and soon, you too will be happy to take the helm, embracing an opportunity that will last a lifetime.
