hotel reviews ONE WARWICK PARK, TUNBRIDGE WELLS

In the heart of Tunbridge Wells’ historic Pantiles area, this 39-room hotel is set in a former brewery. A double-height atrium provides an impressive entrance space, a modern contrast to the classic red-brick exterior. Interiors are sleek, with muted silvers and greys and walnut furnishings, and lots of contemporary art and some fabulous chandeliers. Hypnos beds are extremely comfortable and our room is huge, easily accommodating two adults and a child with lots of space to spare. The bathroom is excellent, with a monsoon rain shower and Temple Spa toiletries. We had a pleasant dinner in the Mediterranean-style L’AMORE restaurant, which is also where our continental breakfast was served. It’s a contemporary, slick hotel, in a perfect location for this well-heeled town. Jo Fletcher-Cross

DESERT PALM PER AQUUM, DUBAI

At this luxury low-rise hotel, the sound of hooves is one of the main attractions. Just a 15-minute drive from the airport, and 30 minutes from Downtown Dubai, this 160-acre estate is home to Dubai Polo Club. Take aſternoon tea on the terrace and watch the pros in action, or join in the fun and take lessons with the resident Argentinian polo instructor (October to May). The hotel welcomes all sorts of guests. While some are experienced riders, others simply come to laze by the infinity pool, head to the serene spa for a Thai-inspired treatment or take the shuttle bus to the beach or shopping mall. On Fridays, linger over the buffet brunch with flowing champagne then head to the Polo Bar for a cocktail as the sun sets. This is a hotel where the decadence of Dubai is on your doorstep. But it’s not in your face. Sam Lewis

BOSCOLO PRAGUE

The palatial Boscolo Prague is in the ideal location for exploring the sights of the Czech capital on foot, with the main train station just a two-minute walk away. The five-star hotel, formerly a bank, has 152 rooms and plenty of pizazz, with high ceilings, gold and cream decor and sparkly chandeliers. I stay in a light and roomy Junior Suite. The design is understated, with marble and leather accents; think 2017 meets art nouveau. Aſter check-in, I head to the spa, which includes a heated pool and dry sauna, which works miracles on my London-clogged pores. I treat myself to a massage and 30 minutes later, feel as light as air. The next morning, I have breakfast at New York Cafe, which offers an extensive American breakfast with cooked options, fruit and different types of delicious coffee. Farida Zeynalova
