As I’m writing this, we’re sweltering in the kind of heatwave that it’s easy to forget we can have in the UK. So, it feels a lit le strange to be looking at snowy mountains and icy passes for our winter sports destinations cover feature. But, with an increasing number of people taking three or more holidays a year — and three in 10 people planning a winter holiday — there are plenty of snowy trips being booked and we’ve got the lowdown on the latest trends on the slopes all over the world from p54. Of course, some would rather escape the chill in the cooler months: to fi nd out more about the state of the winter sun market, turn to p30 to read our analysis. A trend you may have heard
about lately is that of ‘last-chance tourism’. While it might sound rather grim, look beyond the buzzwords and it’s obvious that tourism is actually protecting experiences which are at risk of disappearing altogether. We’ve taken an in-depth look at the concept and the truth behind it in our special report from p24. For those seeking some long-
haul sunshine, Indian Ocean destinations have it in spades. However, making a trip all that way could be a one-off for many, so you want to be sure that you’re choosing the right destination. We’ve made it easier with our guide on p41.
