AVIATION PROFILE Flybe

Exeter-based airline Flybe has added to its portfolio of 232 routes with a new service from Birmingham to Hamburg. This makes it the first airline to fly the route, with flights starting from 10 July. Passengers will have a choice of up to four flights a week. The airline already serves the German cities of Berlin, from Tegel Airport, as well as Munich, Hannover and Stutgart. In addition to the Hamburg

route, Dusseldorf will be part of Flybe’s 2017/2018 winter schedule expansion. Fares start from £34.99 one-way for both destinations. Vincent Hodder, chief revenue

officer at Flybe, believes the route to Germany’s second-largest city will prove popular for business and leisure travel, and is optimistic about increased passenger numbers

over the summer. “We’re pleased to add Hamburg as our sixth German destination to our already extensive schedule to and from Birmingham Airport, and to maintain the Dusseldorf route for existing customers,” he said. Flybe serves 15 countries from 87

departure points. Seven new routes were launched as part of the airline’s new summer schedule, including Cardiff to Rome, Doncaster to Palma de Mallorca and Edinburgh and Aberdeen to London Heathrow. In early June, Flybe signed a

five-year partnership alliance with Eastern Airways, which will operate its scheduled routes under the Flybe brand. The deal will see Eastern provide four aircraſt operating as Flybe in a joint revenue and risk- sharing agreement. flybe.com
