NEWS Hidden treasure at The Travel Convention 2017

This year’s Travel Convention in the Azores will see the UK travel industry discover a ‘hidden treasure’, according to Marta Guerreiro, the Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism of the Azores Regional Government. For the last 20 years, tourism has come to play an

increasingly important part in the Azorean economy, where a firm focus on protecting the local environment has helped to ensure that its natural beauty and heritage remain firmly intact, while offering truly unique experiences to visitors — all backed by fantastic Portuguese hospitality. “We’re truly honoured that ABTA has chosen the Azores as

the host for its annual Convention,” commented Guerreiro. “The islands are a hidden treasure, balancing an increasing tourism profile with a reputation as one of the most sustainable archipelagos in the world. It will be a pleasure to welcome those who promote and sell our destination to the British public as they discover our beautiful islands for themselves.” Visitors to the Azores can count on seeing and experiencing

plenty of natural wonders, from lakes and mountains, forest reserves and natural and recreational parks to protected landscape areas and endemic flora and fauna, combined with a wide range of activities such as whale watching, trekking, diving, fishing, canyoning and kayaking. “The wealth of experiences on offer, in parallel to our

sustainable initiatives, make up the key ingredients of inbound tourism’s growing success,” said Guerreiro. “The symbiosis between nature and sustainable tourism helps to ensure that visitors to the Azores enjoy a unique destination that works as well for nature lovers as it does culture vultures.” The Travel Convention will be atended by senior

professionals spanning the full breadth of the mainstream and specialist travel industry, including all forms of travel retailer, tour operators, cruise lines, hotels and airlines, as well as experts working with the sector and trade and consumer media.
