First five-star luxury hotel opens in Cuba
Kempinski’s five-star Havana property is first of its kind
Cuba’s booming tourist industry now has a five-star hotel to offer. The Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski La Habana opened on 7 June in Old Havana. The hotel has 246 rooms and suites, six restaurants and bars, and a spa and wellness facility — marking a re-entry into the Americas for the brand. While visitors to the island
have been increasing year-on- year — with a record four million visitors last year, a 13% increase from the previous year, Kempinski say this is the first true luxury five-star property in Cuba. “Since it was declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, tourism has exploded in Havana. We believe the
market is ready for a true luxury hotel,” said Xavier Destribats, chief operating officer for the Americas and general manager of the hotel. “Our property will not only be the first of its kind in this market, but we believe it sets a new standard for the Caribbean. We’ve been very strategic about the expansion of our brand and we’re convinced this is the right time and the market for Kempinski in the Americas.” Kempinski is not the only brand
launching luxury hotels on the island: Starwood is due to launch a Luxury Collection overhaul of the state-owned Gran Caribe Hotel Inglaterra in 2019, following the opening of Four Points by Sheraton

LIBERIA LUXURY The Farmington Hotel has opened close to Roberts International Airport in Liberia. The luxury hotel will be man- aged by Campbell Gray Hotels and has two restaurants and bars, a dedicated convention centre with capacity for 600 delegates, three outdoor swimming pools, a gym and spa, plus a marina for boat trips.
