ATTRACTIONS NY in the Tony spotlight

New York theatres received a boost at the 2017 Tony Awards this June, with critically-lauded ‘social media’ musical Dear Evan Hansen a big winner on the night — nominated for nine awards and taking home six, including best musical, best book of a musical and best original score. Rachel Bay Jones won best performance by an actress in a featured role in a musical, while Ben Plat was awarded best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical. One of the biggest events on Broadway

this year is the revival of Hello, Dolly, and star Bete Midler was the winner of best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical, while Gavin Creel took best performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical. The production won best revival of a musical, and costume designer Santo Loquasto was also recognised.
