SUSTAINABILITY PILLARS

Amadeus has been reinforcing its environmental sustainability

strategy, based on three pillars: 1 Responsibility: addressing the environmental efficiency of our operations;

2 Commitment: supporting our customers with our sustainability value proposition; and

3 Collaboration:with industry stakeholders in joint sustainability initiatives.

Amadeus has invested in startup SAF producer Caphenia

initial supportive KPIs, and one or two successful customer case studies. Finally, for Amadeus, it’s important

that we find strategic alignment as we want to be sure our team and the startup can work together to deliver technology that improves the travel experience.

You mentioned that sustainability is a key theme

for investment this year. How is Amadeus considering its role as an IT company and what investments have Amadeus Ventures already made in this area? Positive social impact, environmental sustainability and climate action have become crucial topics in recent years. As an important player in the industry, we acknowledge our

responsibility to collaborate with others and contribute to creating a more sustainable future, guided by our three sustainability pillars (see box, above). The work that we do at Ventures plays an important role in pillars two and three. Creating a more sustainable industry is a challenge that all travel players face and only by collaborating and working together will we be able to reach the industry’s goal of being net zero by 2050. Amadeus is building an ecosystem of partnerships to

support sustainable travel and tourism. Amadeus Ventures has invested in two startups that contribute to this effort.

CHOOOSE Aside from investing in this startup, Amadeus has also

partnered with CHOOOSE. Through this strategic collaboration, travellers will be able to obtain an advanced calculation of the carbon emissions of their trip and then be offered concrete options to take climate action related to that same trip. Travellers and travel agents using Amadeus’s platforms will be able

to explore a portfolio of vetted solutions addressing climate change and seamlessly purchase carbon offsets or removal solutions aimed at mitigating the carbon emissions associated with a given trip. These vetted climate solutions include carbon removals, carbon offsets and SAF (sustainable aviation fuel).

CAPHENIA Amadeus has acquired a minority stake in Caphenia, a future producer of synthesis gas, the feedstock of SAF. The German-based company has developed an innovative

approach to produce SAF in a more affordable and scalable way. The decision is part of a wider commitment on behalf of Amadeus

to support the industry on its journey toward sustainable travel. The investment will offer Amadeus enhanced visibility

into the challenges of the SAF sector, allowing the company to further explore the role it can play in this key element of the industry’s journey to net zero by 2050.
