Karen must be given time to repay her dues
Story: Karen Doyle sentencing: ‘Long hours and high stress levels’ affected Tui manager Let’s not be too harsh on her. Who knows what goes on with people’s lives and I’m sure loss of job and reputation is enough for Karen to suffer. I do not condone her actions but she must be given time to repay and readdress her actions, which I’m sure she will.

Story: Resumption of commercial flights from Blackpool airport ‘unviable’ Blackpool Council should get out of the way and sell the airport to private enterprise. While there is a role for local government in broad infrastructure development, they tend to be hopeless at managing and getting the proper returns on investments.

Broadway speaker was right on stress
Story: Broadway conference: ‘Nobody in travel like Netflix’ I totally agree with this. I often put off booking a holiday as I find the whole process particularly stressful.

Atas Conference taps into a big growth sector
Thanks to all the suppliers and guest speakers at the Atas Conference. Agents who haven’t attended before should sign for 2019. Big business growth here. KAREN ALLEN retail manager, Aspen Travel

Cook manager: Pricing hurts me too
Story: Agents criticise Thomas Cook’s pricing trial Can I point out it’s not just independent agents that are suffering. I am a manager of a Thomas Cook store and I am in the same situation – having to sacrifice my commission in order to match my own company’s website. That said, I disagree with switch-selling to Jet2. Yes, they offer lots of regional flights, but they will eventually take your customers with them. You have to match their website too to get a booking and one day it will get to a point that you are making so little margin it’s not worth your effort. This also applies to Tui and others. I believe Thomas Cook have been very fair over the last couple of years in offering price parity. GUEST
We do 30 to 40 tickets a month with Thomas Cook. We are now starting our own trial to reduce this to zero while Cook complete their own trials. Good luck! TERRY WRIGHT Travel Weekly welcomes a response from Thomas Cook
