FUNCTION & COMPONENTS

FEATURED EXHIBITORS

Noted for the sheer minutiae of the products on display, the segment did a lot more than merely display fixtures and fittings, demonstrating how far this part of the industry has come in the past two years

Many exhibitors put the emphasis on the home of the future in this section, with the likes of Hettich, Blum and Italiana Ferramenta bringing the sort of fixtures and fittings that expand the range of design possibilities for furnishings of all kinds. Intelligent technology featured widely – the sort that rethinks and improves traditional functions in a way that enhances comfort and increases flexibility. The supplier industry, as expected, presented an enormous range of ideas of the sort that enhances innovation. Many exhibitors were offering them for the first time, some of which will inspire product and interior designers to develop everything from storage solutions to foldaway beds, such as the sort referenced by the likes of Giorgio Rodoni of Prodimex who spoke of Transformable furniture – solutions

to fit every space. As expected, the segment reflected the ethos that good design begins with the product that the supplier provides. Exhibitors demonstrated how they are employing a wide range of approaches to meet growing demands in terms of technology and energy efficiency. Previous shows have been marked by developments that have gone on to influence the industry significantly; those such as the damping or electrification of drawers, pull-outs and flaps and guide systems, as well as innovative solutions for corner cupboards and a range of tools and components for streamlining and simplifying mattress production. This year’s show was no exception, understandable, given the level of innovation the industry has enjoyed in recent times.
