INTERZUM 2019

INTERZUM AWARDS

More products than ever before went in front of the judges and the quality of the entries ensured the event was a worthy curtain raiser

T

he interzum Awards attracted a record number of entries this year - fittingly, as it was the event’s 60th anniversary - and they were presented to winners on May 20, the evening before the show opened. The ceremony - held for the tenth time by Koelnmesse in co-operation with Red Dot took place in Cologne’s Theater am Tanzbrunnen and involved participants from 22 countries. They entered the competition with a wide range of

products, product refinements, materials and innovations, and won over the six-member jury with their design quality for what has become known as the “interzum award: intelligent material & design 2019”, the best designs in the global furniture supply industry and interior design. A total of 260 entries were submitted, an increase which was seen to highlight the significance of design as a factor that is able to add real value. The jury of six experts tested, discussed and assessed the objects live on site. Their decisions were based on criteria such as the level of innovation involved, material quality, form, functionality and, of course, sustainability. Together, the jurors selected a total of 59 products that clearly set themselves apart from comparable objects thanks to

their outstanding design and awarded those products the distinction “High Product Quality”. They also awarded 12 “Best of the Best” titles, the top distinction for outstanding design achievements judged to set new standards for form and function in their industry.
