MATERIALS & NATURE

FEATURED EXHIBITORS

Anyone looking for a glimpse of the very best, smartest, most innovative - and even disruptive - materials set to make their mark on interiors and furnishing wouldn’t have been disappointed

With such an emphasis on sustainability and the re-use of materials, this was a popular section and one that lived up to its billing by highlighting significant advances in

materials research which have produced

the sort of features and functions that have made a new generation of products possible. The focus was very much on trends. The sort that

saw Katrin De Louw of Trendfilter title her presentation Trendespresso – small, fast and strong. Others such as Yves Matten of Lignoa Leichtbau made innovation the centre of their thinking. His focus was on wooden 3D tubing and the lightweight structures made from super-stable, high-tech woods. On display were many of the key ingredients which were presented for the first time. Subjects covered literally

everything from resource conservation, and sustainable raw materials to innovative surface design. Wood, veneers, parquet flooring, interior works, decorative surfaces, decor papers, laminates, wood-based panels and laminated plastic all featured strongly alongside mineral materials, edges, surface treatments, embossing cylinders and press plates.

Innovations in the materials world play a key role in the design of living and working spaces these days. Such materials bring new qualities to rooms and furnishings, making them more functional, flexible and smarter. It’s true to say this segment also showcased the most extensive range of new materials and applications found anywhere in the world.
