1. What are some of the excuses Harry gives for not doing his homework? 2. Why doesn’t Harry do his homework for Madame Magna when he goes home?
3. Explain in three sentences what happens in Harry’s room in the middle of the night.
4. Based on what you have read, choose one adjective to describe Harry and one to describe Madame Magna. Explain your answer using PIE.
I think that Madame Magna is a sinister character because she dresses from head to toe in black, calls herself ‘Madame’ and speaks with a strange accent. When she says, ‘Vell, vell, vell, Harry, you are quite the joker!’ this reminds me of the character of Dracula, who is also a very sinister character. I found this intriguing and it made me want to read on.
Imagine that you are Harry and you haven’t done your homework again. Madame Magna is very angry and has told you that you must write a letter to apologise and to explain why you didn’t do it. In your Writing Skills Book, write a letter to Madame Magna containing the following elements:
❍ an appropriate introduction ❍ an apology
❍ an explanation of what happened (you could use an anecdote here)
❍ a description of your feelings ❍ an appropriate ending and sign-off .
