MAKING SELF STORAGE WORK FOR YOU
With Jo Moon of Dartmouth Self Storage
It’s no surprise that so many people are relocating to the South West. Covid has changed the way we work, live and play and now, more than ever, coastal areas are in high demand. Our beautiful seaside towns are becoming well known destinations for relocations and it’s hard to open the Sunday papers without seeing a picture of Salcombe’s iconic harbour. ‘Which’ magazine voted Dartmouth in the top 3 best seaside towns and the Sunday Times voted Kingsbridge one of the best places to live by the sea.
Coupled with an already heated market as staycations are giving rise to an increase in Airbnbs, the pandemic has affected time scales for conveyancing, planning and removals. This means we are finding that many moves aren’t going quite as smoothly as they could and customers are turning to us to look aſter their goods when sales and purchases don’t coincide or if sales fall through.
How does self storage work?
It’s like a hotel for your goods really! We have clean and dry indoor rooms from just 20sq ſt all the way up to
300sq ſt which are easily accessible from wide, well-lit corridors. You have your own key to the room and you can come and go as you need, 7 days a week. Moving in is easy with plenty of parking and large clean loading bays which means you can offload in the dry and there are plenty of trolleys to help with your move.
It’s also important to our customers to know that their goods are safe and secure and we have gone the extra mile with our security systems with Pin code access, CCTV, fire detection systems and a secure perimeter fence.
We also offer packaging for your move from boxes to bubblewrap as it’s so important to make sure that your goods are properly protected. We source our packaging to make sure it’s as eco friendly as possible and can advise you on which products are best for your goods.
Why do we have lots of different sizes of rooms?
Because everyone needs storage for different reasons! We have over 20 different sizes of rooms to suit
every storage need. For example, our smallest room is 20sq ſt which is equivalent to a large wardrobe size and is 4ſt wide by 5ſt deep. Estate agents recommend their customers use these rooms to decluter their homes before they go on the market. We have middle sized rooms which are perfect for storing furniture for a renovation for example. Our larger rooms are generally used for house moves so a 3 bedroomed home will usually fit into a 150sq ſt room.
The other great thing about having a choice of rooms is that you only pay for the space you need so it makes financial sense too.
Anything else I need to know? NEED MORE SPACE?
We have sites in Dartmouth and Totnes and there is a friendly and experienced reception team at both our sites. We make the whole process as stress free as possible, from liaising with your removal company to offering packing tips. If you’re not sure what size unit you need we will advise you – it’s probably less than you think! When you take a room, we will need some paperwork from you such as ID and proof of address and we create a rolling contract that will last for a minimum of 2 weeks until you give us notice.
