For many locals, Christmas Day just wouldn’t be complete without Save A Packet! Good old-fashioned customer service at its very best … usually delivered by the trio of lovely ladies who have been shop stalwarts for many years, greeting regulars by name, knowing their shopping habits and

for first-timers unsure about what to do, always willing to offer help and advice. “When we decided to buy the shop it was simply not negotiable – Noreen and Chrissy (both with Save A Packet for nearly 18 years) plus Pauline (with her 8 years service there) had to be included as extra special ‘fixtures and fittings’! Mum and I knew their knowledge and experience would be invaluable and so it has proved.” Claire had retail experience to draw upon but nothing equating to Save A Packet’s ethos and business model. “When they opened and especially when it changed from a sweet shop to stocking more general food items, the concept of buying just what you needed of loose ingredients was way, way ahead of its time and it is quite amusing to see that idea now presented as something ‘new’ and ‘trendy’.
