But Claire does understand that as, in 2017,
Hurricane Irma literally wiped out the previous 12 years of her family’s life in the Caribbean. Having grown up in Frogmore, schooled in Kingsbridge and with Claire’s Mum based in the town, Kingsbridge was the obvious choice for the Massingham family to start again from scratch. And so it was than when Claire found herself
redundant, Mum was looking for something to interest her having newly retired, and they learnt Save A Packet was about to close its doors for the final time, they came to the rescue. “As an essential food store, Save A Packet stayed open all through lockdowns and both Mum and I were very regular users. It was an absolute lifeline to many who were wary of visiting supermarkets; looking for items they couldn’t find elsewhere or, particularly,
customers for whom online ordering was not an option. We couldn’t let somewhere so special to our community go.” If you have not yet discovered this treasure trove,
you do not know what you are missing; those who have been using it for years will still find items they know and love (“subject to supply chain issues which are sadly beyond our control!”) but now side by side a growing range of eco-friendly alternatives – all at the original refill store : Save A Packet, Kingsbridge.
