It’s important that chimneys are swept regularly
And for those of you with Log Burners, here are our Top Tips for lighting them safely and to ensure they burn efficiently … • We always recommend using kiln dried logs as moisture in your fuel creates smoke and doesn’t burn effectively in your appliance.
• Build a small pyramid in the middle of the stove using the kindling and a couple of firelighters allowing space between the items so that air can get in to feed the fire as it gets going.
• Light the firelighters with a match and then as the kindling takes hold, partially close the door of the stove leaving a gap of about an inch to let in maximum air. Do not leave the fire unattended whilst the door is open.
• Once the fire is burning well add a couple of larger logs to the stove. • You can now shut the door of the log burner and adjust the air vents. We recommend leaving the air vent around a third open so that your wood burns for longer.
• You may need to open them again if the fire dies down or when adding new logs.
