the clubs and societies already being held at the Hall and offering individuals the chance to speak to other residents about the various opportunities within the village and neighbouring area. If Covid lockdown has made you

For all Kingswear and Dartmouth sailors who appreciate the heritage craft in our region this is an opportunity to get involved in an active way with the Brixham Heritage Regatta. This takes place on 28th-29th May and if you wish to take part (as well as be delighted at the beautiful boats) there are discounted moorings for any classically- designed boats over 30 years old. Trailer sailors are welcome too. On 28th there is to be a grand fish supper at the Brixham Yacht Club to which all participants are cordially invited. If you wish to be involved contact

penny@brixhamheritageregatta.uk to make your booking. Otherwise just turn up on the days and admire the boats, and enjoy the fleshpots of Brixham.

brave the briny over to Dartmouth on the second Monday of the month at 2:30pm to hear some of the best speakers in the country, all of whom have been vetted to assure their very high standards. Since ‘Art Behind Bars’ in January and ‘Portmeirion-A Wesh Italianate Fantasy’ in February we have been most entertained by Ian Caskie from Bristol on ‘From Launch To Re-launch’ which told us all about the extraordinary history of Brunel’s SS Great Britain. Ian was most entertaining and taught us a lot in the process. April’s talk was from James Bolton and was entitled ‘The Grand Tour – Pleasures of the C18th Travellers’ Journeys in Italy. This is when the upper echelons of British society decanted their restless sons (and some daughters too) in to unsuspecting Europe to spend oceans of money and hopefully pick up a veneer of civilisation by bumping in to it at very close quarters. Quite a lot of fine art seen in our ‘Great Houses’ comes from this period when the youths, when not drinking and debauching, sent back home fine pieces to be displayed in the family seats. James’s account of the hardships and perils encountered on the way was most entertaining and amusing. No wonder the sons and daughters returned home changed, and a little wiser. In May, many of you I am sure

would be interested (on 9th – if in time!) to hear Susie Harries talk about Pevsner in Devon. How did a German refugee become the Grand Old Man of English Art History and the go-to source of information about our country’s architecture? Absolutely remarkable! If you miss
