ver 9 years, much can change and my recent lunch venue has indeed


grown during that time but what really matters has stayed reassuringly constant – the warm welcome; the friendly staff; the locality of their ingredients and the amazing food they produce. ‘If it ain’t broke …’ and I defy


anyone to find anything which ‘needs fixing’ with Valley View Café. They do start with an enviable


advantage – that view! Truly unspoilt olde english countryside in all its glory; meandering river, ancient woodlands, the occasional contented animals leisurely grazing, straight out of a children’s picture book. Gazing out at that rural


panorama is a perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Add a slice of one of their scrumptious homemade cakes or a steaming dish of mac ’n cheese

enriched with smoky chorizo, and you will regret ever having to leave. A venue for all seasons, take your pick of where to sit dependent on the weather. I have basked in sunshine on their flower filled terrace, snuggled inside whilst wild winds blew, enjoyed decadent Sunday brunches in the light, bright marquee or crowded around wooden tables on the grassy knoll with assorted children enjoying the small people’s play area. Whatever your choice, the


portions are unfailingly generous, and the flavours are always ‘more- ish’ and interesting. You would struggle to find fresher ingredients as the majority are sourced from the adjacent family farm shop and butchery where they proudly support local farmers, artisan suppliers and producers. Their own home reared beef


and lamb is joined by pork from a neighbour just down the road. If the selection of fruit and vegetables aren’t from their own farm today, they probably will be tomorrow … their bywords in everything are local and quality. Ready to have your tastebuds
