ew people can legitimately claim to be the very best at what they do in the country – but one member of a small team at an


independent local garage business genuinely can! Dartmouth born and bred Kevin Toms became


Top Technician 21 in the annual competition run by Aftermarket magazine, the premier competition within the automotive industry. Designed to find the UK’s most skilled automotive technician, it starts with 1,000 hopefuls from far and wide who are eventually whittled down through ever-demanding stages to the top 5 – where Kevin found himself in 2017. “Reaching that level was a fantastic experience.


Competitions are valuable learning resources which I use as benchmarks to see where I am in terms of skills and knowledge against other technicians; a challenge to improve myself, learn from others, take on board the judges’ feedback and comments and then bring all that back to my work at FRL”, Kevin’s modest explanation of
