Write something for By The Dart
They say everyone has a novel inside them, waiting to be written. Well, I am not sure that’s true but there may be one or two article’s in some of our readers that they would like to see published.
By The Dart magazine has always been keen to identify new writers and contributors who can write succinct, entertaining and relevant articles that ‘celebrate’ local life. We are not interested in overtly opinionated or polemic essays – social media is your outlet for that – but articles that reflect on local life, our town, the surrounding countryside, the river etc. Articles that perhaps impart knowledge about our local environment, in its broadest interpretation, that isn’t
immediately obvious to us all. Perhaps, a description of your experiences in moving here from elsewhere or growing up here. Or perhaps a description of the life of someone local, either present or from the past.
We don’t expect to unearth a trove of regular contributors but hopefully a selection of ad hoc writers and content that enriches the magazine. No long essays are required – there’s not the space - but a word count of 700 - 1,100 words is optimal.
Finally, do you know someone locally who we ought to interview and would be agreeable to being interviewed? If so, do please send details to us by email.

How green or sustainable is your business/organisation A
cknowledging that any business, commercial activity or organisation needs to be aware of its environmental impact
has become obvious to many of us. There’s a sense that many business owners or leaders of all sorts of organisations recognise this and are looking hard at how their activities can quickly become more ‘green’ or sustainable. This is true at both a national and local level. The rhetoric and noise of some pressure groups would suggest that not enough is being done or not quickly enough but many of us are already doing something that in aggregate and in time, will make a significant impact.
At By The Dart, we are hearing more and more of local initiatives that would benefit from being better publicised and celebrated. If you run a local business or are part of a local organisation that has introduced new ‘green’ initiatives or pivoted
their business to make it more environmentally sustainable, then we would like to hear from you.
We plan to publish a regular feature in the magazine that will celebrate this progress whether the steps being taken are small or big. We want to publicise the widest possible range of initiatives or actions being taken – it doesn’t necessarily have to be something new but could include any previous decision by your business/organisation that is clearly now reaping dividends in improving your environmental footprint or sustainability. You could be a retail or hospitality business that has
embarked on a new ‘greener’ plan, a local farmer or holiday lets business etc. If you are doing something that you are
proud about or perhaps affects how clients or stakeholders will perceive you, then do please get in touch. Please email Mark
