Helen Sturdy from ProCure23 will


discuss the new MMC Toolkit, which is aligned to the Government MMC framework, and works alongside the social value charter and with the NHS Net Zero Carbon Building Standard tool, aiding Trusts. The expansion of the University Hospital Southampton and Adanac Health and Innovation Campus demonstrated a sustainable and innovative approach to increasing capacity for patient care on a constrained site, and showed how a landscape-led approach to masterplanning can boost the green credentials of a healthcare project and boost biodiversity. Two of the team who worked on this project – Paul Stansfield from University Hospital Southampton, and Abz Randera from One Creative – will talk about the learnings that can be translated to other settings. Steven Hipwell, the Digital


Lead for the New Hospitals Programme for Lancashire and South Cumbria, will discuss designing digital infrastructure and services for the Lancashire and South Cumbria New Hospitals Programme. Also featured under this conference theme will be a look at the development of the new IHEEM ‘Paper to Digital’ Governance Programme, by Paul Kaye from IHEEM’s partner QuiqSolutions (see also pages ???? of this issue), and Anisha Mayor of the IHEEM Strategic Estate Management Advisory Platform.


Theme 3


Health & Social Care Planning How can the estates and facilities profession effectively support & influence the delivery of the Integrated Health & Social Care System’s future strategic planning requirements? The keynote session on this theme will


take place on Tuesday 10 October, and will be chaired by IHEEM Past-President, Paul Fenton. It will feature Natalie Forrest, Senior Responsible Owner – New Hospital Programme, and Suzanne MacCormick, Clinical Planner and Global Healthcare Consultant. NHS Property Services will make two contributions to this conference theme.


The exhibition at IHEEM’s annual Healthcare Estates event – a great place to discover what’s new, and to make and renew contacts.


The first will highlight the achievement of Net Zero compliance at the new Devizes Health Centre, discussed by Andrew Strange from NHSPS, Martyn Symonds from Kier Construction, and Alison Halmshaw from Archus. Secondly, Karina Dare will walk the audience through the creation of a new neighbourhood hub in York from a previously underutilised space. The University Hospital Southampton,


University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, and Cheshire and Merseyside ICS, will also present. David Jones, Director of Estates, Facilities & Capital Development at University Hospital Southampton, will address the importance of good infrastructure for patient safety, while Head of Estates at UHB, Mike Taylor, and Adam Ewing from Kier Construction, will deliver the results of a six-month post- occupancy evaluation of the new £97 m Heartlands Treatment Centre in East Birmingham. Nick Armstrong, Estates Lead


at Cheshire and Merseyside ICS, and Samantha McCumiskey from gbpartnerships consult, will talk about the ‘5-step approach’ used in the development of their Integrated Care System.


Theme 4


Operational Delivery of the Healthcare Estate How can the estates and facilities profession continue to deliver high- quality healthcare services and functions to patients as it faces increased and conflicting challenges of capability, capacity, and efficiency, particularly around the workforce and Net Zero carbon agendas? The keynote session on this theme will


take place on Wednesday 11 October, and will be chaired by IHEEM Past-President, Paul Fenton. Keynote speakers on this subject are Fiona Daly, National Deputy Director of Estates – NHS England, Gary Naylor, Managing Director, gbpartnerships manage, and Malcolm Twite, Executive Director Property and Operations, Community Health Partnerships.


A look at the implications of PFI expiry Matthew Vickerstaff from the Infrastructure and Projects Authority will present on ‘Preparing for PFI Contract Expiry’, discussing the many elements that need to be considered in the departure
