‘Hands-on’ element key to training facility’s success
As a leading specialist training provider for healthcare engineering, and estates and facilities management in the UK and across the globe, Eastwood Park says it offers ‘first-class facilities, and hands-on, guided training’, to its learners. The training centre said: “Our training offer is sufficiently adaptable and comprehensive to enable us to deliver the specialised training the healthcare sector and those working in it require. With roots going back as far as 1936, when the Home Office opened the Civilian Anti-Gas School at Eastwood Park, and formerly a specialist UK NHS training provider, our experience and expertise are second to none. We pride ourselves on excellence in all areas – from our expert trainers and flexible learning options, to our state-of-the-art facilities and trusted accreditations. “When you train at Eastwood Park, you are not only gaining an invaluable career-enhancing learning experience, but also receiving the best training available. We have formed partnerships with industry-leading suppliers, which provide our learners with a plethora of ‘live’ equipment to train on, ensuring they get to grips with the actual equipment they will be handling back in their hospital environments. We believe it is not enough to just understand the practical element; we want all learners to leave Eastwood Park feeling confident they can apply that theory in everyday situations.
“At Eastwood Park, we are proud to be innovators in our field, constantly looking at ways to move forward, and keeping on top of technological

and learning advancements. We are home to the UK’s first steam-operated battery, one of the only ‘live’ operating theatres for training, and one of the only ‘live’ medical gas pipeline systems in England outside a hospital. We also have MRL, electric traction, and hydraulic training lifts, alongside HV and LV electrical labs, and much more. Come and train with the best – at Eastwood Park.”

Tis month’s Health Estate Journal includes a comprehensive look ahead to what is expected to be a packed Healthcare Estates conference and exhibition in Manchester next month, with the five conference streams centering on some of the key areas of focus for the healthcare engineering and estate management community. Tese range from the compliance and governance of the estate – see also an article on pages 44-45 about a new digital system designed to simplify and standardise the AE auditing process, and help Trust EFM teams be better prepared for the questions AEs will ask when they audit – to implementing digital technology and innovation, and health and social care planning. Meanwhile a new Medical Engineering and Healthcare Engineering steam will include presentations on subjects including certification and reporting requirements for the electrical standard, BS 7671, ‘New energy technologies and the integration for healthcare’, updates from a number of IHEEM’s Technical Platforms, and focuses on the practicalities of ‘Cleaning the air with germicidal FAR-UVC technologies’, and an especially topical subject currently – ‘Nitrous oxide destruction and a greener NHS’. Complementing what should be fascinating
conference will be an exhibition featuring over 220 organisations highlighting new products, innovations, technologies, and services designed to help EFM teams operate and manage healthcare budlings more efficiently, compliantly, and at lower cost. Te annual IHEEM event is also always a good place to catch up with existing acquaintances and business contacts, make new ones, and celebrate success; the 2023 Healthcare Estates IHEEM Awards Dinner, at Te Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester on the evening of 10 October, will provide the chance to combine all these elements. Te Institute is also celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, and the night before Healthcare Estates opens, the milestone will be fittingly marked via a celebratory evening, with a look back at IHEEM’s history, and some of the major events, issues, and personalities, that have shaped its development, at the city’s Science and Industry Museum – see page 10 in this month’s Institute News for more details. Our full Healthcare Estates 2023 event preview starts on page 75. Finally, as mentioned in August’s HEJ, this edition also sees the publication of the first in a series of planned monthly Training & Development sections – see pages 13-20.
