INSTITUTE NEWS
Celebratory evening at Manchester’s Science & Industry Museum
This year sees IHEEM celebrating its 80th anniversary, and to mark this key milestone, the Institute will be holding an informal reception at the Science & Industry Museum in Manchester on the evening of Monday 9 October, the day before its flagship Healthcare Estates event at Manchester Central.
IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars,
said: “The Science & Industry Museum is the ideal venue
to host this special occasion. It reflects and connects to everything that IHEEM is proud to celebrate in its 80th year; namely innovation, modernisation, and progress, strengthened by a rich heritage and tradition. Together with our sponsors, PPL Training, we are now planning an entertaining and relaxed evening, and look forward to celebrating our anniversary with members of the IHEEM family.” Details on how to register to attend this event will be posted on IHEEM’s website and social media posts as they become available.
This month sees the launch of a brand new Training and Development section within HEJ, located directly following Institute News.

The Institute’s Professional Development Manager, Zanna Mercer, explains: “As IHEEM moves from strength to strength in its growth in membership, the provision of professional development member opportunities is at the forefront of the Institute’s key objectives. The quality of service to IHEEM’s members, and developing future leaders, are both core themes in building on the near 80 years’ contribution to the industry and healthcare engineering community, and are deservedly being given even greater attention as the Institute drives forwards. “In support of this, the new section – to be featured monthly – exists to

for IHEEM’s members and beyond to share and discover the diverse range of development initiatives on offer across the sector. With many of these developments evolving within the framework of IHEEM’s professional community, the section will see varied contributions from the Institute’s Technical and Advisory Platforms, as well as IHEEM Knowledge Partners and the Head Office team.”
The areas covered will ‘pivot
thematically’, with a focus on one specific aspect of engineering training and development per issue. Alongside offering a broad scope of insight and knowledge- sharing as to the approaches adopted by contrasting disciplines, it is intended that over time this will also provide a comprehensive library of resources and

As well as the direct benefit to IHEEM’s members, it is hoped this will support and engage those across the industry wishing to further their learning and seek out guidance centred around professional development. IHEEM’s CEO, Pete Sellars, said: “I would like to welcome readers to this new section of IHEEM’s journal. It is another significant advance for the Institute, and supports our commitment to members at all levels who are seeking to develop their technical and professional skills and knowledge.
