times, like the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 60 per cent of ECA members have embraced this by running both land-based and online casinos, allowing them to reach a broader audience and offer diversified gaming options. In past years, ECA members have successfully leveraged their established brand reputation and existing customer base to transition smoothly into the digital space. Tis transition not only ensures business continuity, but also promotes responsible gambling practices. Being able to offer land-based products online is a crucial aspect for the sustainable growth of the casino industry in Europe. I am convinced that land- based casinos have a bright future side-by-side with an attractive and safe digital offer.

Advertising bans are becoming more prevalent in Europe – what are the challenges this presents?

Te prohibition on gambling advertising in European markets is a strong commitment to social responsibility and public health, reflecting circumstances pertaining to each country’s gambling market at a specific moment in time. Te intention is commendable as it seeks to mitigate the harms associated with gambling addictions. However, it also presents huge challenges for the industry, particularly for the nationally licensed and legal operators regarding customer acquisition and retention. It's important to strike a balance between promoting responsible gaming and ensuring the sustainability of the licensed and regulated casino industry. A total ban will push many consumers, including the vulnerable younger generation, into the clutches of illegal online operators. A more nuanced advertising policy might be better equipped to avoid this scenario.

Te ECA recently extended its partnership with Clarion Gaming, ahead of the announcement of the move of ICE to Barcelona in 2025. What are your views on the agreement and the new venue?

The current trend in the casino industry is a fusion of

traditional land-based and online operations, which is also reflected with the operations of our ECA members. This combination is driven by customer preferences,

technological advancements, and the need for operational sustainability during

unprecedented times, like the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 60 per cent of ECA members

have embraced this by running both land-based and online casinos.

Since taking the reins of Casinos Austria, of what accomplishment are you most proud thus far?

I’m proud that, together with our 3,000 highly motivated colleagues, we’ve succeeded in leading our Group through these difficult times on a strong, stable path. Te fact that we are an extremely attractive employer is certainly paying off. I used my first year in the company to work with my fellow Board member Martin Škopek and the management team to develop a new Group strategy under the title ‘Doing Great Tings While Doing Good Tings’. It is gratifying to now see the first positive effects of that strategy.
