ECA European Dealer Championship 2025
MURAT SALIH Director of Live Table Gaming,
Te Hippodrome
We’re incredibly proud of Mathew. Winning the European Dealer Championship is the highest recognition a dealer can receive in our industry, and for one of our own to achieve that is a huge honour. It reflects not only Mathew’s exceptional skill and composure but also the high standards we hold ourselves to at the Hippodrome. It’s a defining moment for Mathew and a source of great pride for the entire team.
Having made the way up the ladder to Inspector level, Mr
Taylor-Harrison explained: “Whatever roll I happen to be fulfilling in my job I just love the variety I get day to day with the situations you need to handle and the people that you meet. No two days are the same so my work life is very rarely dull. As a croupier you basically play games for a living which is great but as an inspector I can pass on my knowledge to the younger members of staff which I find incredibly rewarding. “Te Hippodrome is, I believe, in a class of it's own,” he
added. “Being an entertainment venue in the heart of Leicester Square the variety of customers we get in is amazing, it's incomparable to any other casino I've ever been in let alone worked in. Troughout my career here I've worked with an incredible number of great dealers, inspectors and wonderful people with a variety of experience and gaming knowledge. If you care about the job it would be impossible to work here and not improve yourself. So many of them have helped shape me not just into a great croupier but also, I hope, into a good man too.” Murat Salih, Director of Live Table Gaming at Te
Hippodrome, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Mathew. “Mathew is a calm soul, highly regard within the business and among his peers and absolutely committed to excellence. And he takes real pride in his craft. What sets him apart is his expertise in combining technical brilliance with charisma. He’s well-liked by our customers. “Te Hippodrome is committed to excellence in training. It’s intense, exciting, and unlike anywhere else. We are the busiest
22
and most diverse casino in the UK, and that comes with high expectations. But for anyone who wants to build a serious career, it’s the perfect place to learn, grow, and be recognised. We celebrate our people, we promote from within, and we encourage ambition. You’ll work hard – but the rewards are real,” Mr Salih added. “We invest in our people and prepare them for one of
Europe’s most fast-paced and demanding casino environments. Mathew has taken every opportunity to develop his skills and raise his game. His win is a testament to his hard work. “Te event was smooth, professional, and celebrated
everything that makes our industry special. It was highly competitive, more so, I think, than in previous years. But very importantly, you could see the respect among the dealers; highly collegiate. And the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and I think it really highlighted the excellence that exists across Europe. “Live gaming remains at the heart of any great casino,” Mr
Salih explained. “While technology and digital play are growing, live tables are where the atmosphere lives – the human connection, the shared experience, the performance. Competitions like the EDC are essential because they celebrate that human side. Tey honour the skill and professionalism of our dealers and remind the industry that people, not just platforms, are at the centre of our success.” A spokesperson for Swiss Casinos said of one of their own
securing runners up spot: “With impressive precision, charm and concentration, Christoph Boo from Swiss Casino Zurich shone at this year's European Dealer Championship in Bregenz and secured second place among the best croupiers in Europe. His dexterity at the roulette and blackjack table, combined with his natural host quality, convinced not only the jury, but also the audience. We congratulate him on this great success and are proud to have him in our team.”
