Of the total, 6.4 million were visitors from other African countries, making up 75.6 per cent of the total arrivals. Meanwhile, the number of European tourists exceeded 1.2 million, representing a 38.2 per cent increase compared to 2022. In addition, tourists from the Americas amounted to 455,901, - 39.8 percent more than in 2022. Of those, 353,975 were from the United States. Data further shows that tourists from Asian countries made 199,308 arrivals, nearly 70 per cent more than in 2022. Te number of Chinese tourists visiting South Africa increased by 204.9 per cent compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 37,164.
GAMBLING IN SOUTH AFRICA Te National Gambling Board (NGB) is responsible for the oversight of the regulation in the gambling industry throughout the country. THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 According to the NGB overall, the industry had been on an upward trajectory, growing by 7 per cent and 6 per cent in FY2018/19 and FY2019/2020 respectively. In FY2020/21, the year COVID-19 hit, GGR fell by 29 per cent, falling from R32.7 billion to R23.2 billion. Gross Gambling Revenue (GGR) was down more than 50 per cent owing to the nationwide lockdown. FY2020/21 as a whole saw the gambling industry lose more than R10 billion in gambling revenue.
