July, 2021 hi-TeCh evenTS Battery and EV Expo Returns in September
SANTA MONICA, CA — While first widely used to power electri- cal telegraph networks, today’s battery applications in automo- biles, consumer electronics, med- ical devices, and stationary stor- age don’t just power our daily lives — they transform how we travel, interact, and manufacture. Each year, engineers, inno-
vators, and thought leaders con- verge in Novi, Michigan, for a conference and expo focused on keeping up with the fast-moving advanced battery and automo- tive industries. This year the show will be held from Septem - ber 14 to 16 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. According to Michigan’s state protocols, as of July 1 all gather- ing restrictions both indoor and
outdoor as well as mask rules were lifted. This is a must-attend event
for engineers and innovators look- ing to keep on pace with automo- tive, consumer, medical, and sta- tionary application growth. The Battery Show will provide expert- led educational sessions and product showcases representing the full supply chain — from raw materials to recycling. Focal points include: battery
markets, supply chain and regu- latory policies; battery design, application and manufacturing; advanced battery technologies; stationary power advancements; EV and HV industry develop- ments and forecasts; emerging applications for electrification; EV and HV design advance-
SPIE Startup Challenge Announces Winners
BELLINGHAM, WA — On June 2, six startups won industry accolades as well as shared $35,000 at the 11th annual SPIE Startup Challenge. The pitch competition, which took place online this year, is an integral part of the industry and entre- preneurship programs of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. The Startup Challenge
includes two distinct tracks: healthcare and deep tech. In the weeks leading up to the finals, semi-finalists and finalists had
multiple opportunities for men- torship, industry advice, and feedback from the Challenge’s network of experts as they pre- pared and honed their final pitches. In the deep tech track, In A
Blink, whose WINK-ol provides virtual fiber-optic technology to enable massive data transfer from public-transport and indus- trial vehicles to a smart grid, won first place; Owl Autonomous Imaging, whose 3D ranging ther- mal camera provides safer robot-
