March, 2020 Plasma Treatment System

Concord, CA — Nordson MARCH has introduced its PROGENY™ plasma treatment system with a chamber that is 6.6 ft (2m) deep with overall dimen- sions of 26 x 90 x 26 in. (660 x 2,260 x 660 mm). The machine is designed for the plasma treatment of catheters at their full extended length. Plasma cleans and activates the

surface prior to applying a lubricious coating and provides adhesive bond- ing of the balloon to the catheter. It removes contamination, impurities and organics at the nanometer level and improves surface wettability, hy- drophilicity and bonding to address issues that include poor wetting, poor coating uniformity, voids, and poor adhesion. The PROGENY system pro-

vides plasma treatment at 13.56 MHz and accommodates all the com- mon gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen and argon, with high process re- peatability and uniformity. An EPC controller with a

SECS/GEM interface facilitates re- mote control of the equipment and real-time data logging. The system is controlled by an intuitive touch- screen with GUI and a one-button start feature. The system also includes config-

urable plasma cells with high-flux electrodes and direct gas injection for uniform gas flow. Besides catheters, PROGENY systems can plasma- treat other products with part sur-

faces up to 6.6 ft (2m) long and 19.7 in. (500 mm) wide. The machine has two easy-ac-

cess front- and back-loading doors, an advanced horizontal electrode de- sign and an integrated rack for load- ing various-sized products. Features include an integrated

gas distribution system for uniform gas flow, water-cooled high-flux elec- trodes, a removable product tray,
