much more than “go/no-go” feedback. They company also needed a so-
lution that was easy to use and quick to program. It had to be accurate and reliable, with a very low false call rate. Finally, it needed to connect to the company’s Aegis SPC traceability system.
Qualitel selected Koh Young for
many reasons, including Koh Young’s worldwide presence and rep- utation for continuous improvement through the accuracy of the ma- chines’ data, ease and speed of pro- gramming, conversion support, and simplified images and data. “Koh Young’s initial presenta-

tion was very clear and detailed. It highlighted all the capabilities, ease of use in programming and function- ality and we felt it was only right to add them to our assessment,” says Hoa Hoang, vice president of opera- tions, Qualitel. “They also invited our team to their demonstration facility to walk through an evaluation run. After a short time period, this was an easy decision to engage in contract negotia- tion and scrap our current supplier that we were evaluating in-house.”

machines and four AOI machines. Koh Young’s technical support was onsite to train Qualitel engineers and to support the machine han- dover. As with any change, the oper- ators were initially hesitant, but af- ter the machines proved their speed and dramatically reduced false calls, there were convinced. A short time after running the machines, Qualitel saw a wide range of improvements. The company saw a 95 percent reduc- tion in false calls, which reduced pro- duction time by 2.5 minutes per as- sembly. In addition, programming time was reduced by 75 percent. The new systems enabled
Qualitel to upgrade its inspection pa- rameters for IPC-A-610-based joint measurement, lifted leads and parts, foreign object debris (FOD), and com- ponent lead and body coplanarity. Product rework has been re-
duced, first-pass yield quality im- proved and a 50 percent DPMO im-

provement add to the benefits. Quali- tel’s downstream test yield has been improved to greater than 98 percent. The company has also seen im-
proved solder paste print accuracy with its new inline 3D SPI system. Finally, data collection has been sim- plified, making it easier to monitor and control process limits. “Koh Young is a trusted, ex-
tremely responsive partner of Quali- tel,” says Hoang. “We look to them for assistance in multiple areas, in- cluding process questions, applica- tion support and software updates. We reach out to Koh Young whenev- er we need technical support and they are there for us.” Qualitel’s journey and partner-

es. The company reports satisfaction and is impressed by Koh Young. They have become a trusted partner. “We added Koh Young at a time
when we needed to triple our output. They fully supported our implemen- tation, without which would have stalled our rapid growth,” concludes Hoang. “Koh Young is essential to Qualitel and we would confidently recommend them to anyone.” Contact: Koh Young America,

cialization. IME, despite its apparent sim-
plicity on paper, is complex, requir- ing drastic changes in materials, processes, designs, and product con- cepts. The industry has come a long way, in terms of its accumulated learning, as well as product offering. Low-volume products are al-
ready on the market and high-volume applications are not too far from final qualification. Indeed, IDTechEx fore- casts that the entire market will ex- ceed $1 billion within the next decade. Contact: IDTechEx, One Boston

the survey is that one-third of the electronics manufacturers plan to as- sess the COVID-19 preventive meas- ures of their suppliers and technolo- gy partners. As far as communication and services are concerned, electron- ics manufacturers expect more than
just videoconferencing capabilities from their suppliers and partners. The majority of respondents see a need for online training and powerful remote services, in order to receive more efficient support and be better prepared for future crises. Contact: ASM Assembly Sys-
