Your photograph brought back so many very happy memories of wonderful times. The view along Afon Nyfer, encompassing the houses of the Parrog and with Dinas Head in the distance, is taken from near the Boat Club which looked after us so well all those years ago under the stewardship of Norman. A caravan on the fields of the local headmaster enabled us to visit over many summers. It was like Enid Blyton Land, with Carn Ingli, a towering rock-capped mountain with an Iron Age hill fort at its summit, looking down on the town with its medieval castle and the historic status of being a Marcher Lordship. But one occasion I am sure all your readers would envy is the time we launched our Topper off Newport Sands
for our youngest daughter, Nia, and her friend Angharad (Harri) to enjoy a sail on a very calm and sunny afternoon. Mum and Dad could walk along the shoreline keeping an eye on them, Harri sitting in front of the mast with feet trailing in the water while Nia made the best of the light airs.

Rhys ap Delwyn Phillips This is a place of pilgrimage for
my family for over three decades
When I saw a wave on the surface approaching them out of nowhere I was baffled as to its origin. Surprise turned to amazement and delight when a pod of dolphins broke around them and frolicked gently around the boat. As this was the age of no mobile phone photos it is just an unforgettable image of
and possibly my favourite place in the world. We visit in the autumn and spring but that doesn’t stop the swimming (although it generally ensures it’s brief), sand-castling on Newport Sands and competitive crabbing. My husband and I even honeymooned here. It’s lovely to see the Parrog featured! Ceri Whittaker
I’ve spent many an activity-filled summer holiday at Parrog, both as a child and now as a parent, staying in one of those houses on the sea wall. I have many happy memories of windsurfing all day, followed by a lazy BBQ dinner and a walk up the hill to the Golden Lion for an evening’s entertainment, before rounding things off with a midnight swim a little further along the coastal path. Here’s a panoramic sunset (left) from
that very sea wall! Jeremy Morton
