The island of Symi, between Rhodos and Kos, is an attractive stopover for cruising sailors in the Dodecanese.

to encourage holidaymakers to book ahead with confidence. Under ABTA guidelines, if you book a package holiday and the Foreign Office then advises against travel to that destination, you are entitled to a refund. But many companies have updated their booking terms to offer refund credits or re-bookings under various other scenarios – for example, if a traveller tests positive for Covid-19 prior to departure. Terms and conditions vary, so check the small print when you book. Globesailor, which operates through a network of charter companies worldwide, has gone further and introduced a ‘flexible cancellation policy’ on many vessels. This means customers booking for 2021 are entitled to a full

refund if borders are closed, boating or non-essential travel is prohibited, or a quarantine of more than seven days is imposed. The aim, says Marin, is to ‘reduce the stress for clients’. Ultimately though, the industry is hopeful that 2021 will mean a return to more carefree boating in Greece. Whether that means a solo charter, a flotilla holiday or a chance to brush up skills on an RYA training course, the toughest question still remains: which islands to explore?
