About this Product/Service

Tarkett, a specialist in people- and planet-friendly flooring solutions, is redefining inclusive design through its Human Conscious Design Platform (HCDP), powered by virtual reality. Using cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5 technology, the platform allows users to step into public spaces - such as offices, schools, and hospitals - and experience how sensory stimuli can affect individuals with neurodiversities like ADHD and autism, who often struggle with sensory processing and emotional regulation.

Building on the success of their world-first, evidence-based dementia filter, this next-generation platform is the result of further intensive research, reinforcing Tarkett’s ongoing commitment to creating truly inclusive interiors. The HCDP headset enables users to adjust lighting and sound at different times of the day, as well as looking at colour, texture and fixture and fittings, offering an alternative perspective on how design elements can either support or overwhelm the one in seven people thought to be neurodiverse. By shedding light on these critical sensory differences, this groundbreaking technology is already helping shift the narrative from an outdated ‘one-size-fits-all’ design to one that is more inclusive and accommodating for everyone, not just the majority.

To support the launch, Tarkett has also introduced a RIBA- accredited CPD course to educate architects and designers on best practices for neuro-friendly spaces. Additionally, their Human Conscious Design Principles guide offers practical design advice to help organisations create environments where both neurotypical and neurodiverse individuals can unlock their full potential.
